The Shepherds’ Field in Beit Sahour is also the site of the meeting of Boaz and Ruth, as recounted in the Book of Ruth. Somewhere in this area the lyrical tale of Naomi and Ruth, gleaning in the barley fields of Bethlehem, took place. Moreover, it has left an indelible mark on the minds of countless generations. Ruth is unique in the history of womankind because her story is not primarily that of her love for a man, but of her devotion to her mother-in-law. Ruth was married to Boaz and had a son Obed. Obed’s son, Jesse, was the father of David, the King and Prophet.
